Time to talk

6th Mar 2020

During the past four weeks a few pupils in P1 had the opportunity to participate in a little speech and language programme, ‘Time to Talk.’  On Wednesday past we welcomed parents to join us for our last session.  The programme consisted of lots of singing, talking and interactive games based on language development.

Key areas of Language Development addressed throughout the four-week group oral language programme included:

(In consultation with the CCEA Framework for Literacy Development for FS)

ü  Talking time

ü  Attention and listening

ü  Listen to and respond to social conventions: Eye contact and turn-taking

ü  Awareness of feelings

ü  Exposure to and experiment with rhyme

ü  Sentence structure

ü  Identify words in phrases

ü  Sense of steady beat

ü  Visual memory

ü  Visual discrimination

ü  Auditory memory

ü  Auditory processing

ü  Auditory discrimination

ü  Generate vocabulary

Throughout the programme the pupils participated fully with enthusiasm and we had seen them grow in confidence and their ability to express themselves in a clear manner.

Many thanks to all involved.
