Celebrating Maths Week Ireland 2025 in Dromintee PS

17th Oct 2025
This week we have been very busy participants of Maths Week Ireland.  The FS classes enjoyed STEM workshops in the school hall facilitated by FS teachers and assistants.  Primary 3 welcomed a P3 parent, Mrs Edel Carragher, who studied Maths at university and influenced her career - she also put them through their 1, 2, 3s with Irish dancing steps. P3 pupils were encouraged to use coins and solve money problems. Primary 4 pupils also welcomed a guest visitor, Mrs Patricia Fox, our school dinner lady who kindly demonstrated how her Maths skills using numbers and measuring helped her to bake buns. In Primary 5 we had two guest visitors- Vincy our school caretaker and Mrs Claire O Neill, parent. Vincy shared his experience of his trade as a plumber. He demonstrated the importance of different number and measure skills are required to be a successful plumber. Mrs O’Neill promotes the N Ireland Marathon and gave the pupils an insight into race times and put the P5 pupils through their paces. The P5 class completed the Money on the Mound workshop learning about the journey of money through the ages. Primary 6 and 7 pupils welcomed past pupil Sean Mc Genity to talk to them about his recent Maths success. Having studied Finance at university Sean was recently awarded an array of accolades in his career. We congratulated him on his success and he tested the mathematical minds of our P6 and P7 pupils with a quiz he brought in with him.  All classes had the opportunity to create Maths Eyes art posters, complete daily puzzles created by our ICT team and engaged with Izak9, Mathseeds and Mathletics throughout Maths week. We sincerely thank all of our guest visitors for their time and enthusiasm contributing to a very successful week. Congratulations to all our Maths Eye poster prize winners and pupil awards for Maths week. Well done everyone ??
