COLOUR Project Launch - Four Seasons Hotel Carlingford
Today 8 of our P4 and P5 pupils attended the launch of the COLOUR Project- ‘Communities of Learning, Openness and Understanding through Rights,’ in the Four Seasons Hotel in Carlingford with Mrs Fearon. This is a project supported by PEACEPLUS, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) in partnership with UNICEF Ireland, UNICEF UK, Ulster University and Kids’ Own Publishing Partnership.
Over the last number of weeks, our pupils worked alongside pupils and staff from our partner School- Scoil Realt na Mara in Dundalk, “working together to make schools across the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland better at making sure children’s rights are respected in schools.”
Session 1: Getting to know the researchers and pupils from the other school.
Session 2: Making research tools.
Session 3: Checking the research tools work.
It was great meeting new friends and learning together more about children’s rights. We worked alongside Dr Evie Heard a researcher from Ulster University, to create a pupil friendly survey about children’s rights which will be used with participating schools going forward.
Today we listened to a range of speakers and also presented alongside Dr. Evie. We played a quiz with the audience to help teach them about some of the children’s rights we have been learning about.
This has been a wonderful experience for our pupils, working with others, making new friendships and growing in confidence. We are looking forward to continuing with the COLOUR Project next year and learning more about children’s rights through a whole school approach. This will form part of our Being Well Doing Well Programme, as we begin our journey as a Rights Respecting School.
