One of our Primary 7 pupils got a special head teacher’s award and some treats for her and her family when she became the first pupil to reach the target of one million words in the Accelerated Reading programme. She is an inspiration to others. We asked her for the secret to her success and she said, ‘I read everytime I get a chance. I read before school in the assembly hall. I read when doing the Accelerated Reading slot in class (drop everything and read). I read in the car going home. I go to bed early and I read in bed for about an hour. Anytime I’m not doing anything, I basically read”.
