Dromintee and Jonesborough Blitz

18th Jun 2019

Jonesborough PS P7 pupils visited Dromintee PS today to play a mixed teams blitz between the 2 schools. Michael Toale presented the DJ McRandall cup to the winning team, the captain of whom was from Jonesborough PS.  The sun shone and the games were energetic and exciting.  Mr Keenan reminded the children that participation in the games has to be fun.  He said that whilst 1 team wins the All-Ireland, 31 teams have not won.  The focus must be on the positive.  In presenting the cup, Michael Toale said that it was part of the vision of D J McRandall to encourage sport among the underage players.

Daniel Joseph MacRandal was an Architect from Belfast. He played gaelic football and hurling for Antrim and on many occasions against Armagh recalling these games with Fr. Vallely on his regular visits to him. Daniel was also a fluent Irish speaker.

Daniel's main office was in Belfast and he opened a branch office in Newry which was managed by John Duffy and Michael Toale. The company designed all of the housing estates in South Armagh and the renovations to both churches and the two schools in our parish in the 1970/80's.

While doing work for Dromintee Football Club Daniel won some money in the club lotto and himself and Fr.Vallely

decided to use the money to help develop underage football in the Parish and he presented the MacRandal cup to the schools for an annual competition.
